(The whole colony is hurrying below-ground to a large bunker to wait for the grasshoppers to eat and then leave. The queen is sitting on a stone throne, and Dot and Atta are beside her. Atta is still very uptight.)

Atta(looking up at the ceiling): They come, they eat, they leave. They come they eat, they leave.

(Flik starts shoving his way through the ants to get to Atta.)

Flik: Pardon me! 'Scuse me! Coming through!

(He reaches the princess.)

Flik(taps her on the shoulder)(speaks softly): Princess Atta! There's something I need to tell you!

Atta: Not now, Flik!

Flik: But, Your Highness, it's about the offering!

Atta(getting annoyed): Shh!

(Flik shuts-up and bites his finger in fear. The ants listen to the sounds from above. They hear the grasshoppers land. Then something shocking happens.)

Grasshopper#1(from above): Hey, what's goin' on?!?

Grasshopper#2(from above): Yeah, where's the food?!?

(The colony gasps at this. Atta turns to Flik.)

Atta: What did you do?!?

(Everyone turns to look look at Flik.)

Flik(weakly): It was an accident....

(Suddenly, the angry grasshoppers push their feet through the ceiling of the bunker and begin leaping through. They wreak havoc. A heavy-set grasshopper, Molt, sticks his head through a hole.)

Molt: Boo!

(Molt laughs and jumps down.)

Molt: Where's the food?

(The grasshoppers pick on the ants, and then the last grasshopper, Hopper, comes down. He lands right in front of Flik and two other ants. He leans down and blinks at them.)

Flik(looking up at him): Hopper!

(Hopper steps over the three trembling ants and walks calmly, yet menacingly, through the crowd of ants.  The colony members move out of his way. He stops.)

Hopper(in a low voice): So, where is it?

(The ants are terrified.)

Hopper(turns around and yells): Where's my food?!?

Atta(unsurely): Are sure it's not up there...

Hopper: What?

(He walks over to the princess.)

Atta: The food was sitting in a leaf on top of a-

Hopper: Excuse me?!?

Atta: Are you sure it's not up there?

Hopper(standing right in front of Atta): Are saying I'm stupid?

Atta: No...

Hopper: Do I look stupid to you? Let's just think about the logic. Let's just think about it for a second! If it was UP there, would I be coming DOWN here to YOUR level LOOKING for it?!?

(He's right in her face.)

Hopper(easing up a bit): Why am I even talking to you? You're not the queen.

(He starts feeling her face with his antennae, to Atta's dismay.)

Hopper: You don't smell like the queen.

Queen: She's learning to take over for me, Hopper.

Hopper: Oh, I see! Under new management!

(Starts glaring at Atta.)

Hopper: So, this is your fault!

Atta: No! It wasn't me! It was-

Hopper(interrupting): First rule of leadership: everything is your fault.

(Hopper makes Atta sit down.)

Hopper: It's a bug-eat-bug world out there, Princess. One of those "circle of life" kind of things. The sun grows the food, the ants pick the food, the grasshoppers eat the food-

Molt(starts to jabber): And the birds eat the grasshoppers...

(Hopper looks at his brother furiously.)

Molt: Hey, like the one that nearly ate you! You remember? You remember?

Hopper: Molt...

Molt(starts talking to the grasshoppers beside him): Aw, you shoulda seen it! This bluejay! He has his half-way down his throat, OK? Hopper's kickin' and screamin', and I'm not goin' anywhere near...

(Hopper begins to go toward Molt.)

Molt: Aww, c'mon! It's a great story!

(Hopper grabs Molt's antennae.)

Molt: Ow, ow, ow...

Hopper(pushing Molt up against a wall): I swear that if I hadn't promised Mother on her deathbed that I wouldn't kill you, I would kill you!

Molt: And, believe me, no one appreciates that more than I do!

Hopper: Shut up! I don't want to hear another word out of you while where on this island! Do you understand me?

(Molt makes a weak whimpering sound.)

Hopper(shakes Molt roughly): I said do you understand me!

Molt: How could I answer? You said I couldn't say another word!

(Hopper growls and gets ready to punch Molt.)

Molt(puts up his arms in defense): Aah! Remember Ma!

(Hopper turns around and punches another member of his gang instead of Molt. The grasshopper falls to the floor, unconscious. Hopper tries to contain his rage.)

Hopper(suddenly smiles): Hey, I'm a compassionate insect! There's still a few months until the rains come, so you can all just try again....

Queen: But, Hopper, since it's almost the rainy season, we need this time to gather food for ourselves!

Hopper: Look, if you don't keep your end of the bargain, then I can't guarantee your safety. There are insects out there that will take advantage of you! Someone could get hurt....

(Hopper snaps his fingers. A ferocious grasshopper is lead into the center of the chamber. Dot is scared and runs. Hopper grabs her.)

Hopper(to Dot): What's the matter? You scared of grasshoppers?

Flik(in a low voice): Dot....

Hopper(holding Dot in front of Thumper): You don't like Thumper?

(Thumper is very close to Dot, who's scared out of her wits. Flik steps forward.)

Flik: Leave her alone!

(Hopper turns angrily toward Flik, who's standing there alone.)

Hopper(holds Dot out in front of Flik): You want her? Go ahead.... Take her....

(Flik doesn't do anything.)

Hopper: No? Then get back in line!

(Flik does as he's told.)

Hopper(drops Dot): It seems to me that you ants are forgetting your place. So let's DOUBLE the order of food!

(The colony gasps.)

Atta: But...but....

Hopper(walks up to Molt): We'll be back at the end of the season...

(Hopper yanks a small piece of shedding exoskeleton off of his brother.)

Hopper: ...when the last leaf falls....

(The ants watch it drift to the ground.)

Hopper: You ants have a nice summer.... Let's ride!!!

(The whole gang starts their wings and flies off. Hopper zooms out through the hole above him. Molt tries to do the same. Instead he hits the ceiling. He shakes it off and leaves. Everyone in the colony glares at Flik, whose just smiles and laughs sheepishly.)
